“Pain let’s you know you’re alive” is a trope that should end

Why should it end you ask? Because it’s not true. Now I know that being true isn’t the only reason a meme sticks around, but not being true is a good reason to get rid of an idea. To those of you who have realized that they were alive because of pain let me just explain something. Remember those moments before the pain when you were wondering if you were in fact alive? Those should have been your clue, those should have hinted to you the fact that you were alive. If you ever find your self wondering that the answer is always yes. Wondering is something alive things do, not something that dead things do. When you are dead you will stop wondering if you are alive, I assure you.

While we are on the subject I’d also like to dispense with the idea of making a “commitment to live”. Life doesn’t need a commitment from you, it will work on a month-to-month plan, no contract required; you go on living and you will go on living.
